I noticed the rear silence on my Sharan Tdi 2001 dangling the otherday, it had rusted of and was just hanging by the rubber grips to the chassis. The thing is I noticed NO change in the noise that it makes. Had it replaced this lunchtime and still there is no noise difference, so whats the point of this bit of the exhaust. In the old days on my Sierras etc if the rear silencer went you could hear your car 1/2 mile away.

Also don't know if other owner ever experience this, but whenever I use the windscreen washer fluid, the water gives of a really smelly vapour for a short while and is then ok. This happens if I use plain water or any other type of windscreen washer fluid. Smells like there is a dead fish in the resoiviouer or something. Just really curious as to what the stink is (smelly stagnant water or something, or maybe the resourviou could do with a powerflush)

Thanks

The smell is common if you've used inferior windscreen wash in the past. Bacteria. Search the forum and you will see lots of threads. Seems the way to get rid is to use Milton sterilising fuid or similar.

For fan type washer jets you should use special non floculating washer fluid, such as the original VW stuff, which also has a nice fresh lemony smell even when diluted lots.

Is that because you listen to them driving by when you are in the petrol station filling up again. ;) :o :(
